Action Needed
What’s Next? Join Us at the March 3 BOCC Meeting — 9am
We’ll be back at the March 3 Board of County Commissioners meeting — and throughout the month on 3/17, 3/24, and 3/31.
Why attend? We’re continuing to press commissioners to answer questions about the proposed ICE warehouse facility and its impact on Washington County — and to allow citizens to speak at meetings. We’re also voicing opposition to current federal immigration policies and ICE activity.
Everyone is welcome. We are not calling for statewide turnout at this time, but local participation matters.
Those inside the meeting may join the protest outside after opening comments. Protesters outside can be heard inside the meeting room.
If you're visiting from outside Washington County, consider stopping by the warehouse site afterward (about 15 minutes from the county building): 16220 Wright Rd, Williamsport, MD
In case of bad weather, check the county website for cancellations.

No Kings 3 — Volunteers Needed
No Kings 3 is almost here, and planning is underway. We’re looking for volunteers in the following roles:
- Safety Marshals to help keep the event calm, organized, and safe. No experience needed — just a steady presence and a willingness to look out for others.
- Satellite Protest Organizers for morning actions before the main downtown Hagerstown event (especially in Smithsburg and Clear Spring).
- Car Caravan Participants to decorate vehicles and drive through downtown.
- Rush Hour Resistance Volunteers to hold letters as part of a coordinated statement in short shifts.
If you’re interested, email Alice at alicejimroberts@gmail.com and let her know which role fits you best.

Immigration Action Update
Training
Last week was full of momentum. MoCo IRC led two virtual trainings (ICE Watch on Feb. 25 and Community Care on Feb. 26). On Feb. 28, Western MD IRC held its first in-person ICE Watch and Community Care training in Frederick, with 45–50 activists in attendance — including five WCI members — led by seven MoCo organizers.
Another round of virtual trainings is expected soon. If you’d like to get involved, click the button below so we can connect you with the next opportunity.
Advocacy
The Maryland General Assembly session is halfway through. Our message: Don’t Stop at 287(g). We are urging legislators to pass the Community Trust Act (HB 1575/SB 791) and the Data Privacy Act (HB 711/SB 504). If you haven’t already, consider opening a myMGA account to make your voice heard this session.
The House also passed three additional immigration-related bills aimed at strengthening oversight and accountability:
- HB0351 – Digital Unmasking
- HB1018 – Immigration Detention Facilities Standards
- HB1017 – Zoning Requirements for Private Immigration Detention Facilities
While Del. Schindler’s bill was delayed, key elements were incorporated into legislation that has already passed the House.

Impeach Russell Vought
Federal workers have launched another campaign, this time to impeach Russell Vought. If you don't know who he is, you do know his handiwork — Project 2025, which is the blueprint for Trump's horrific immigration policy, devastating cuts to science and environmental regulations, and baseless attacks on our LGBTQ friends, family, and neighbors. Vought is the architect of Project 2025 and the Shadow President — he is the one who is actually in charge of all this mayhem and chaos. Why? He is an ultra-conservative Christian who wants to accelerate the end times to usher in the second coming of Christ. In the meantime, he wants an ultra-rightwing Christian state where women have no power or voting rights, and there is no separation of church and state. Concerned? Sign their letter to Congress demanding they impeach him, then call your representatives and tell them yourselves. Congress will do nothing until they hear it from the public, so make your voices heard!
You do NOT need to be a Federal employee to sign the Vought petition. Click the link below to sign the letter:

Petition: Sign for Transparency and Accountability
Our community is standing up against the proposed ICE detention center in Washington County, and your voice matters. A petition has been launched urging federal leaders to halt plans for this facility and protect vulnerable people from harmful immigration policies.
If you believe our county should not host a detention center and that immigrant rights and human dignity should be respected, please take a moment to add your name.
