October 26 Updates

Tomorrow night, Hagerstown City Council will hear from developers about the proposed annexation of land linked to potential data center development. Let's pack City Hall and show that our community is paying attention!

We're also celebrating an incredible Pens to Power achievement as our volunteers wrap up their election mailer campaign, and sharing details about Sunday's Day of Solemn Remembrance in Harpers Ferry.

Here's what you need to know this week!

Upcoming:

Oct. 27: BOCC Data Center annexation hearing

Oct. 30: Rush Hour Resistance

Nov. 1: A Day of Solemn Remembrance

Weekly: Food Donation Drop Off at Hub City Brewery

Tomorrow Night: Hagerstown Annexation Public Hearing

The Hagerstown Mayor and City Council will hold a public hearing tomorrow, October 27, on the proposed annexation of nearly 172 acres along Burkholder Lane and McDade Road. The property has been linked to potential data center development, although no final development plan has been confirmed.

Representatives of Diversified Capital are expected to present information about the property. The hearing follows months of discussions with local officials, including the use of nondisclosure agreements.

Washington County Indivisible has strong concerns about the proposed development, the annexation process and the lack of transparency surrounding these discussions.

Tuesday, October 27 | 7 PM
Hagerstown City Hall, 2nd Floor
1 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown

Please arrive by 6:45 PM if you hope to get a seat inside.

Let's pack City Hall! A strong community turnout will demonstrate just how closely residents are watching this proposal. Whether you're there to speak, listen or stand alongside your neighbors, your presence matters. Let's fill the room!

Pens to Power: We Smashed Our Goal!

What started as a goal of 5,000 election mailers in three weeks turned into something extraordinary!

Together, our Pens to Power volunteers wrote, stamped and mailed 6,011 election mailers to Washington County households!

And there's more encouraging news: early voting turnout in Washington County is reportedly up 153% compared with the same point in the 2022 midterm election.

A huge thank-you to everyone who wrote mailers, donated stamps, delivered mail to the post office or helped in any way! This incredible effort wouldn't have been possible without you.

We'll share more as the election approaches, but for now, congratulations to the entire Pens to Power team!

Don't Over-Vote!

The Washington County Board of Commissioners race has an important ballot detail this year: one candidate has withdrawn but will still appear on the ballot. And remember, voters may select up to five candidates in this race—not six or more.

Take a moment to review this helpful graphic before casting your ballot!

Volunteer as a Polling Place Greeter

The Washington County Teachers Association is coordinating volunteers to greet voters and distribute candidate literature at polling places during early voting and on Election Day.

Volunteers will be sharing information about candidates endorsed by both the Teachers Association and Washington County Indivisible in the Board of Education and Board of County Commissioners races.

Volunteer opportunities are available during early voting and on Election Day, November 3.
