Protest With a Purpose: Bring a Donation!

Join Washington County Indivisible and Hagerstown Rapid Response on Tuesday, August 25 at 9 AM outside the Board of County Commissioners meeting at 100 W. Washington St., Hagerstown—and help us do more than make noise.

We’ll be collecting food, household and hygiene items for Western Maryland families impacted by ICE. Current needs include rice, pasta and sauce, masa flour, canned corn, applesauce, diapers (sizes 6–7), toilet paper, paper towels and hygiene products.

Bring a donation, bring a sign, and show up for our neighbors while you speak out.

Two Food & Supply Drives, Two Ways to Help Local Families

We have two upcoming opportunities to donate—but they’re two different events, so mark your calendars! Both will support local families, with different donation needs at each.

Friday, August 28 | 5–10 PM — Mutual Aid Food Drive at Hub City Brewery​
Washington County Indivisible and Hagerstown Rapid Response are joining the Western Maryland Immigrant Rights Collective for a Mutual Aid Food Drive supporting local immigrant families. Bring a food donation to Hub City Brewery and receive 50% off your first drink.

Can't make it? Nonperishable food donations for immigrant families can also be dropped off at Eliza’s House, 35 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

Saturday, September 19 | 11 AM–4 PM — Diaper & Baby Wipes Drive at City Park​
Visit the Washington County Indivisible booth at the Hagerstown City Park Fall Fest & Fireworks, where we’ll be collecting diapers and baby wipes to support immigrant families. We’ll also celebrate the International Day of Peace with a community art project where kids and adults can create thank-you cards for first responders, teachers and others who make a difference in our community.

Pens to Power: Postcards, Protest Signs & More!

Our next Pens to Power is Sunday, August 30 from 1:00–4:00 PM, and there will be plenty to keep us busy! We’ll continue writing postcards to Williamsport residents about the proposed ICE warehouse and preparing materials for our General Election mailer.

We’ll also be making protest signs for our Signs from the Sky project and collecting food and personal care donations for the Western Maryland Immigrant Rights Collective (IRC) and local food pantries. Suggestions include rice, peanut butter and jelly, bread, and microwaveable foods.

Come for an hour or stay for the afternoon—there are lots of ways to help! Please RSVP to alicejimroberts@gmail.com to receive the address and let us know how many people will be attending.

Double Your Stamp Donation! National Indivisible is matching donations up to $300 through August 31, so every dollar you contribute toward stamps for our General Election mailer can go twice as far. Help us make the most of the match before the end of the month! If you have stamps to spare, bring them to any WCI event or mail them to:

Signs from the Sky: Your Protest Signs Become Art

Washington County Indivisible is creating our first large-scale protest art project—and we want your signs to be part of it!

Between now and September 6, donate protest signs you've carried over the past several months or create something new. We'll arrange the collected signs into a massive ground collage and capture the finished work from above using drone photography.

The result will become a shareable protest art video released on September 21 in recognition of the International Day of Peace.

Drop off signs at any upcoming WCI protest or event, or email IndivisibleLetters@gmail.com to coordinate a drop-off or pickup.

Want to create something especially large, or bring your artwork on the day of the drone shoot? Let us know. The shoot will take place sometime between September 6–16, depending on weather.

Want your sign back? Put your name and contact information on the back, and we'll return it after the project is photographed.

Candidate Speed Dating: RSVP Now!

Planning to join us? Please RSVP today! We’re getting ready for Candidate Speed Dating on October 7, and we need an accurate headcount of attendees to help us plan a great evening.

This isn’t your typical, boring candidate forum. You will have the chance to sit down for short, face-to-face conversations with the local candidates seeking your vote. No stump speeches, just your questions and real conversation.

Next WCI Rush Hour Resistance

Meet us on the Appalachian Trail bridge on Friday, August 28 at 4:30 PM to help set up, or stop by before 6:00 PM to wave. Our letters aren't waterproof, so we cancel if it's raining.
